Letting Go...

"Letting go doesn't mean giving up... it means moving on. It is one of the hardest things a person can do. Starting at birth, we grasp on to anything we can get our hands on, and hold on as if we will cease to exist when we let go. We feel that letting go is giving up, quitting, and that as we all know is cowardly. But as we grow older we are forced to change our way of thinking. We are forced to realize that letting go means accepting things that cannot be. It means maturing and moving on, no matter how hard you have to fight yourself to do so."

Alice, this is such a timely word. The Lord has been dealing with my heart for quite some time now about letting go of something... I did put up a fight but He always wins :)

Matthew 16:26 (For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?) is my verse for the year. Hillsong United sing a song, Lead Me to the Cross, one of the lines says: Everything I once held dear I count it all as lost. That did it for me last month in fully surrendering to God's will.

Can I quote this blogpost in a future post I am working on?

I am glad you found this a blessing in your life. I too, have had to let go of some things lately. I had to say goodbye to a 20 year marriage...letting go and looking ahead to what God has planned for me was very difficult. I have also had to let go of a few other things in order to be more like Him. Oh, but what a peace I have found knowing that I am in His perfect will.

Go right ahead and repost it. :)

I love that as this is my big defect..holding on and controlling things..here is a favorite poem I read very often..To "let go" does not mean to stop caring, it means I can't do it for someone else. To "let go" is not to enable, but to allow learning from natural consequences. To "let go" is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is NOT in my hands. To "let go" is not to try to change or blame another; it's to make the most of myself. To "let go" is not to care for but to care about....title Let go, let God. Annette your sister in the heavenlies.

Thanks for sharing your poem, Annette. What a blessed thought to know that we are not alone as we are all going through similar struggles. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
